SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT IN TERMS OF THE REPUBLIC OF SERBIA STRATEGIC GOALS' IMPLEMENTATION WITHIN THE DANUBE REGION - local communities’ development
The meeting has pointed out to a significance of sustainable agriculture and rural development, observing through a prism of events actuality. Domestic authors, as well as the authors from about ten European countries, were pointed out to the problems they were facing with and were exposing possible directions of agricultural development through regional cooperation strengthening; within can be recognized also tendencies applicable in the Republic of Serbia. Overall conclusion is that should hasten development of small agricultural producers and integrate them into Serbian agro-complex, as well as include them in market economy.

In organization of the Fair city Trebinje, Republic of Srpska; Institute of Agricultural Economics from Belgrade, Serbia; Institute of Research in Agrarian Economics and Rural Development, Bucharest, Romania; Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies, Faculty of Agro-Food and Environmental Economics, Bucharest, Romania; Petroleum – Gas University of Ploiesti, Faculty of Economic Sciences, Romania and Balkan Association of Agricultural Economists, Belgrade, Serbia, was held VI international scientific meeting “Tourism and rural development – modern tendencies, problems and developmental possibilities”, in Trebinje, 7-8th October 2011.

The goal was to gather the academic community and other relevant participants in terms of overall discussion and presentation of the research results and work in tourism and rural development, as one of the key aspects of economic development of West Balkan countries. Basic thematic fields
- Modern tendencies and perspectives of tourism development
- Possibilities of tourism development in rural areas
- Healthy food in terms of ethno tourism
- Marketing and management of ethno products' branding
Totally 61 papers were presented on international scientific meeting, of which were six introductory reports. Ahead of the Institute of Agricultural Economics, Professor Drago Cvijanovic, PhD, attended the meeting, as vice-president of the Scientific Board.
